Sam Attwater has thanked fans for voting him the 2011 Dancing On Ice champion.

The former EastEnders actor triumphed over Laura Hamilton in last night's final of the ITV1 skating competition. Writing on Twitter, the 24-year-old admitted that he is "overwhelmed" by his success.

"Thank you all so much," he wrote. "I feel so overwhelmed! Loved every second! Thank you."

Attwater performed three routines during the final, including his 'Footloose' showcase, a second showing of his highly-praised 'Riverdance' routine and his own take on Torvill and Dean's famous 'Bolero'.

Speaking after his win, the actor told hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby that he had "had the time of my life" on the programme.

Attwater recently admitted that he would "consider" a return to Albert Square as Leon Small, if offered the chance.

Meanwhile, runner-up Hamilton tweeted: "Thank you so so much everyone. We are incredibly grateful to all of you. What a great night. Wrap party now. Promise to tweet more tomorrow."
