Jayne Torvill has claimed that last night's Dancing On Ice final was "the best" one to date.

The 12-week competition concluded as Sam Attwater fought off competition from both Laura Hamilton and Chloe Madeley to become the sixth skating champion.

Appearing on ITV's This Morning, Torvill and Christopher Dean admitted that they were glad not to be at the ice rink ready to begin another week of developing routines.

Discussing the finale, Torvill said: "It was amazing. I think it was one of the best finals we've had. It was exciting and everyone gave such great performances. No-one knew until the last minute who was going to win."

Referring to hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby's predictions, Dean said: "I think that's the great thing. You may in your envelopes have predicted early on who you thought it was - but if you were predicting last night you might have had a different prediction."

Praising Attwater, he continued: "Watching the weeks rehearsals leading up to it, you could see how strong he was. And [we knew] that if he pulled it off and kept it together, he could [win]. Having said that, with the way [the voting has] been going - it could have been anyones on the night."

Torvill added: "He was so on it last night. He skated so well throughout."

The pair confirmed that they begin rehearsals for the upcoming Dancing On Ice tour on Wednesday.
