It was revealed yesterday that the soldier had topped the public vote for a majority of the weeks during the 12-week competition. Beharry was voted off the ITV1 competition in the semi-final, while Attwater went on to triumph in Sunday night's final.
"Johnson is an inspiration and an absolute gent", the ex-EastEnders actor told The Sun. "[He] is the kindest person and his journey is unreal."
"If I was sat at home I'd have voted for him - that's why the show was so strong this year."
He continued: "Everyone knew that Johnson was taking the public vote and everyone raised their game and pushed harder."
Attwater confessed yesterday that he was "overwhelmed" by the level of support he had received to beat Laura Hamilton and Chloe Madeley in the final.
