Thankfully, ITV appeared to get the message and next year's series, which starts in January, is actually showing signs of early promise.
Louie Spence has been sent packing to do some Go Compare adverts and the nastiest of all nasty reality TV judges Jason Gardiner has been brought back. Nothing says Sunday night light entertainment like a man willing to compare celebs to faecal matter!
More importantly, this year's gaggle of celebs looks more intriguing and entertaining than any in the show's history.
Pamela Anderson's days of bouncing on a beach in a red bathing suit may be a distant memory, but she's still a big draw for the show and she brings some edge and glamour to the competition.
Shayne Ward is still hugely popular despite failing to live up to his early popstar promise and will certainly keep the Gay Spy team busy with his tight costumes.
Meanwhile, Olympians Beth Tweddle and Luke Campbell bring some much-needed credibility and competitive spirit to the ice.
Anthea Turner was at one time one of the biggest names on British TV. These days, she probably doesn't get recognised down her local ASDA. However, her topsy-turvy career, and the slight stench of desperation that surrounds Turner, are still a lure for the public and media.
Of course, we also have the obligatory soap stars (Samia Ghadie, Matt Lapinskas), a politician making an idiot of herself in Lycra (Oona King), a TOWIE cast member (Lauren Goodger) and Keith Chegwin. But hey, this is Dancing on Ice not the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
