'Dancing on Ice' week eight - live blog

It's the week we've all been waiting for on Dancing on Ice. It's time to bring out the props!

However, that doesn't mean we'll be seeing a return for Lauren Goodger. Instead, it's the infamous week where the five skaters still (just about) standing are being handed the baton (or hats or chairs or whatever items were lying about in ITV's reception) as they take to the ice in a bid to make it to next week's semi-final.

So sit back, relax and let Digital Spy be your armchair companion for what could be the last ever chance we get to see celebs throwing hula hoops at each other on primetime telly...

20:55That's it! Another week gone, and only two to go. It's semi-final time next week, with Luke, Gareth, Beth and Matt going all-out to make it to the final. Join us back here next Sunday to see them all fly (well, not really. There will be wires and that). Goodnight, all!

20:53They look thrilled at the notion of seeing each other ever again. Not.

Samia and Sylvain leave Dancing on Ice.

20:52So Luke runs away with all four votes, heading into the semi-final. Samia and her showmance are sent packing.

20:47Seeing as we're cracking on for the semi-finals, I can't help but feel as though the overall level of skating ability should be a bit higher than this...

20:46She could lay the blame on the groin, but I reckon it's curtains for Samia. NB: That wasn't a hair joke.

20:45Gareth is the third one through, leaving Samia, her groin injury and Luke in the Skate Off.

20:44Matt is the first one through tonight, followed by Beth...

20:39Beth has lost her mop hair but kept her face-jazzle. It's going to take some white spirit to get those suckers off.

20:37Jayne says this is the first time ever that no-one has dropped a prop. Boo. The producers should have covered the items in baby oil to make them oh-so-droppable to make it more exciting.

20:35During the 45-minute break, Samia has suffered a groin injury. Ahem. Has she been up to no good with Sylvain backstage?

The judges give their comments.

20:34If you saw the show earlier, this recap is totally pointless - save for seeing a few hugs and high fives. Additionally, you can save yourself the hour and a half and just watch these five minutes.

20:32Heeeere's Nanny!

20:29Welcome back, peeps. There's some sort of awards ceremony going on later (?), but I think you'll all agree that the Skate Off is THE event of the evening...

19:43Hope you enjoyed that, anyway! Don't forget to watch Family Fortunes, have a snack and return at 8.30 to see who will be making it to next week's semi-final...

19:39Well, well, well. Matt and Gareth head up the top of the board this week, with Samia and Luke lingering at the bottom. Who do you think will be skating again at 8.30? It's hard to call now veteran Skate Off bod Chegwin is watching at home...

19:36Jason couldn't resist lowering the tone and making a balls joke. Who knew the tone could get any lower on this programme?

19:35Gareth gets 34.5! Not bad considering it looked like he was in custody of an ostrich egg for three minutes.

Gareth Thomas and Robin Johnstone.

19:34Gareth has definitely landed the most rubbish prop. Apart from throwing it backwards and forwards and gripping it a bit, there really is not much you can do with it in a DOI routine.

19:33Gareth really does up the ante when it comes to getting famous friends on the telly! Two rugby blokes we've never heard of and that one who's vaguely recognisable.

19:31Lastly, prime Skate Off contender Gareth is up onto the ice.

19:30Couldn't have put it better myself. Living the dream!

19:24Let's everyone think of poor Jason and his inability to thrash his hair. It would just jump off and run away. The other judges' comments to Samia are all bland as butter - if a bit hair-focused. If (big if) DOI comes back next year, Gardiner must return...

19:22I think you'll agree that was all underwhelming. What a bore-fest. Anyway, she gets a total of 28.0 - her best, but the lowest so far tonight. Hmm, I think she's a dead cert for the Skate Off.

Samia and Sylvain perform.

19:19This routine is perfect for Samia. It's a lot of sitting and being wheeled about. Bonus!

19:19In a very dubious link to Corrie, Samia gets an office chair doubling for a hairdresser's. And Audrey (aka Sue) inexplicably pops in for all of three seconds. Well, why not?

19:16

19:11It's only taken me eight weeks to realise who Samia reminds me of - a younger Liz Jones.

19:10This is deja vu! Why are we coming back to a post-skate chat with Beth? Is there nothing else more interesting to kill time with?

19:09Hooray! Obligatory shout out for The Nan from Matt...

19:07BIG NEWS from Ashley: "Hats can be tricky - I've used them before."

19:07Matt gets a huge 36.0 for his triple hat routine. Nice stuff.

Dancing on Ice: Matt Lapinskas and Brianne Delacourt perform.

Matt Lapinskas and Brianne Delacourt.

19:06Brianne's scrap of material that could sort of be called a costume is bordering on the obscene! I saw actual bum cheek.

19:05And as a footnote, that footage of Sam Attwater dropping a hat was replayed like some horrendous crime. You've gotta love the faux jeopardy of DOI.

19:04Up onto the ice next is Matt Lapinskwho. He's taking this prop stuff to a whole new scary level with the hats. He hasn't got one. He hasn't even got two. Oh no, he has a mega mad THREE hats!

19:01Hard to look at T&D in the same way knowing their revelation on Piers Morgan's Cryfest that they 'dabbled' with one another. Shudder.

18:59Jools Holland and T&D have done a collab for some sort of half-time performance. It's not quite Beyoncé at the Super Bowl, but it's definitely nice enough.

18:57Right, back to the skating now. Apologies for *advert news*, it's just that there are more ads than ice skates in this hour and a half. Couldn't help myself.

18:56In *advert news*, can Kevin Bacon have a cat in hell's chance in knowing what the flip he's talking about when he's waxing lyrical on Take Me Out and Amy Childs? Oh well, a day's pay is a day's pay, eh Kevin?

18:53Getting an applause out of this audience on cue sometimes seems as easy as cracking a smile from Jason or getting an A-list celeb to sign up to Dancing on Ice...

18:51*Ding ding* the gloves are off for Luke and Jason. Oh, wait, they were both really nice to each other. Boo! C'mon, throw some punches someone...

18:49Dance-wise, it wasn't a bad effort from Luke. Although that 'hydro-glide' just looks like he's caught a shark and is trying to reel it in. He gets a 30.0 from the judges - equalling Beth.

Dancing on Ice: Luke Campbell and Jenna Harrison in the skate-off.

Luke Campbell and Jenna Harrison.

18:48So up next is Luke, who according to Jason needs "a more positive attitude" this week. He also seems to have forgotten to bring his outfit. What's snazzy and showbiz about trackie bums and a wifebeater?

18:45Snuggles the bear has obviously had an accident with a skating blade - his stuffing was coming out.

18:43Schofe definitely wears the trousers around the DOI camp. Clearly what he says goes.

18:39Chris wiggles out of saying anything bordering on controversial. Perish the thought that T&D would say something negative.

18:37

18:37Ashley's dress matches Beth's face on the sparkle spectrum. Nice touch.

18:36Aw, Christine explains that Tony Gubba's unwell and is missing his first show in eight years. Yikes. Get better soon, Gubbs...

18:35Well, she definitely wouldn't get any points as a GaGa impressionist, but Beth gets a total of 30.0 for her 'Born This Way' routine.

18:35Simon Reed?! Who the heck are you? I demand to know where Gubba is!!

Dancing on Ice: Beth Tweddle and Daniel Whiston with their circus routine.

Beth and Daniel perform their routine.

18:34Up first with the hoop is Beth, who is getting her excuses in early about not being able to use a hoop because she's not a rhythmic gymnast. Wot-eva...

18:31Christine says some of the celebrities are skating with awkward objects tonight. I presume she wasn't thinking of Sylvain when she said that.

18:30Not too sure what Jorgie's going on about here, but I'll let you draw your own conclusions...

18:26

18:26Vintage Dancing on Ice moment #462: Ray Quinn dropping a hat. Memories!

18:25So Gareth has a rugby ball. Okay. Beth has a hula hoop. Makes sense. Matt has, er, three hats. Right.

18:22This is possibly the most underwhelming performance to date! Gone are the golden days where T&D would do a whopper of a showstopper to kick off the night...

18:20This opening sequence shows what would happen if Kraftwerk had a penchant for ice skates and chairs.

18:18Watching celebrities get turned into blubbering messes by mere hats and ropes never fails to be amusing.

18:17Good evening, everyone! Welcome to another Dancing on Ice blog from Digital Spy! And it's set to be a good one, as it's 'Props Week'. Excited? No? Well, good to see Pip is... What a card he is!
