Two move on to next round in "Popstars"

By
Just two hopefuls from yesterday's open auditions for Popstars have moved on to the next round.

Over 2,000 queued up for the auditions at London's Wembley Conference Centre to face the judging panel of Pete Waterman, Louis Walsh and Geri Halliwell.

Only Emma Beard, 18, and Anton Gordon, 19, (above) were chosen to go through to the next round of the competition.

Emma, who sang "If You Want To Be Somebody", said: "I really don't know why I've been chosen. I went in there and thought 'let's just go for it'."

She was asked by Halliwell if she thought she was bold enough for fame. "I told her I had what it takes," she explained. "I’ve wanted to be a singer ever since I was a young girl. Geri said, ‘I think you can do it.’ I was absolutely stunned."

Meanwhile, Anton, from Neasden, north-west London, performed R Kelly's "I Believe I Can I Fly."

"The judges said I had a very controlled voice and handled a difficult song well, and that I had a lot of confidence," he said. "Geri liked it the most. She was smiling and asking the most questions."
