Simon slays the Conways

Another week, another X Factor. This week though the burning question was whether or not Louis Walsh would turn up. Surprise, surprise he did! Apparently it wasn’t a publicity stunt either.
Yeah, right.
Chico
The gag is wearing thin again now. Chico’s rendition of Billie Jean lacked nearly everything. Musically not on the money, the appearance of the little lad was a piece of cheese too far.
Chico has managed to shine in other rounds of the competition. His reputation was left a little tarnished over this.

The Conway Sisters
This version of Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now had to be heard to believed. It was that bad. Surely the sisters must have run out of luck with this excuse for a good showing.
Rating:
Andy
I know Andy hasn’t been too well this week with throat problems but this was easily his weakest performance of the series.
Though he grew in confidence as the song went on, it just wasn’t the top notch performance that he’s been leading us to expect, though it received a warm welcome from the hyped up studio audience.
The wobble at the start didn’t help him but we’ve come to expect more from this talented artiste.
Rating:
Shayne
Shayne was probably very brave taking on The Darkness. We knew he could sing but now we also know that he can do a passable Mickey Mouse impression.
What was Louis thinking of letting Shayne make such a banana of himself with a track that is totally unconducive to showcasing the lad’s talent.
A mess.
Rating:
Brenda
“Brenda we’re loving it??? said a banner from the crowd. I completely agree.
Forget Dolly.
Forget Whitney.
This version of I Will Always Love You was truly sublime. I knew Brenda was good. I never knew she was this good.
Rating:
Journey South
The lads had impressed me in recent weeks but I’m afraid we were definitely back to pub style entertainment with this effort.
Apparently this is a favourite track for the boys to perform but it seems the progression they have made in the last few weeks has been forgotten.
Disappointing.

Dek’s Verdict
1. Brenda
2. Andy
3. Journey South
Worst on the night: The Conway Sisters
The showdown
No complaints from me about the bottom two. Chico has amazed me with his bouncebackability but tonight’s effort just wasn’t on the money while The Conways having raised their game last week were back to what is sadly their woeful norm this time around.
The really big question here was whether or not Louis would once more save his mates The Conways when he is now fully aware of the storm such a decision would create. The other question was whether Simon would vote off his own act.
Chico reprise was, as you’d expect, both vibrant and full of energy. The Conways were just as bad as they’d been earlier in the evening.
As it happened Simon sent home his own act and spared Louis what may well have been an ordeal. While his decision may have shown a lack of loyalty, for me it meant that his integrity remained intact.
This week I thought only Brenda was anywhere near her best. From here on in anything less than a good performance could result in an exit. The heat is on.
Yeah, right.
