Major, who appeared alongside Cheryl Cole on the reality show six years ago, said he wanted one final attempt to make it as a popstar.
Speaking about Cole's rise to fame, Mager commented: "It's weird for me and I'm sure it'll be weird for her. Six years later, she's in the biggest girl band in the country and I'm playing working men's clubs, I fit in between the Bingo."
Before singing Bette Midler's 'Rose' for the judges, Mager confessed that he believed this was his last shot at achieving his dream career.
However, the judges were not impressed by his performance. Dannii told him that his voice was not "strong enough", while Louis concluded that he did not have what it takes to "win this competition".
An upset Cole ended up walking away from the judges table, leaving Simon to make the final decision on Mager's fate.
"I can make this straightforward, the competitions have gone up and you haven't got IT and it's time to stop chasing this dream and do something you'll be happy in and not frustrated," he said.
"It's gone on long enough now and I can tell you by that audition you haven't got it in your voice and I don't think you ever will."
The X Factor airs on ITV1 tomorrow at 7:30pm.
