The four-piece girl group found themselves in the bottom two alongside Girlband following the first public vote of the series. Both bands had been mentored by Louis Walsh.
In a new twist for the results show, the two acts went on to perform a new song they had hand-picked in the event of failing to impress the public. While Girlband chose to belt out a rendition of the classic hit 'That's What Friends Are For', Bad Lashes picked 'Wonderwall' after previously impressing Walsh with their performance of the track at the Judges' Houses stage.
As usual, it was then left to the four judges to decide the fate of the acts. After Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue had both chosen to eliminate Girlband and Simon Cowell had cast his vote against Bad Lashes, Walsh was then asked to pick between his two groups. In order to bring the result to a deadlock, he voted against Bad Lashes.
Show host Dermot O'Leary then revealed that producers were reverting to the earlier viewer poll and announced that Bad Lashes would be going home after receiving the lowest number of votes.
Asked for his reaction, Walsh said: "They're two very good groups, that's why I picked them. I am devastated for the girls - they had so much more to give."
The remaining eleven acts will perform Michael Jackson hits on next week's live show, which airs on Saturday at 7.25pm on ITV1.
