Noel Gallagher has claimed that X Factor hopefuls should get 'proper jobs' rather than relying on 'sob stories' to progress in the competition.

The Oasis star recently criticised the ITV1 talent show for failing to provide its winners with long-term music careers.

In a new attack on the programme, Gallagher complained: "It's a case of who has the biggest sob story this year isn't it? 'Oh me cat died and its outstretched paw was pointing at the letter X. So I've come here today Simon to sing 'What's New Pussycat?'' Come on, do us a favour - get a proper job."

Gallagher also accused judge Simon Cowell of trying to overshadow the contestants on the live shows.

He said: "Simon Cowell always goes, 'You are what this contest is all about'. No it's not - it's about you, it's not about them."
