The Spanish singer missed out on a place in the semi-final after performing 'I Love Rock 'n Roll' and Bon Jovi's 'Always' in a night which saw the final five tackling Britney Spears hits and American classics.
With the show's outcome now being determined by the public alone for the rest of the competition, the act with the lowest number of viewer votes would be sent home. In the results episode, host Dermot O'Leary confirmed that Alexandra Burke, Eoghan Quigg, JLS and Diana Vickers had reached the next stage, leaving Lorenzo as the latest singer to be axed.
Speaking afterwards, she revealed: "I have fought with all my heart and with everything I had. This doesn't end here. This is the beginning of my dream."
Her mentor Dannii Minogue added: "An incredible vocal that she pulled out on both songs tonight, and the most beautiful person to work with. I've just been blessed. I'm so glad that I got to meet Ruth. She's going to be a friend forever."
After thanking her supporters, Lorenzo closed the results show by giving a second performance of 'Always'.
Asked to provide a final tribute to her act, Minogue replied: "The vocals say it all. My words mean nothing, it's what she sings. That was incredible."
The X Factor semi-final airs next Saturday at 7.00pm on ITV1.
