ITV have announced that The X Factor will be back for a second series, according to a report in The Mirror.
Ratings for the show have now topped 8 million, and are expected to continue rising as the weeks go on.
The newspaper claims that the show will be back in 2005, leaving an uncertain future for Pop Idol, which was also expected to make its return next year.
An ITV1 insider told the newspaper, "It's interesting they have gone for a second series even though this one has halfway to go.
"But it does raise a question mark over Pop Idol's future."
It is also currently unknown whether judges Sharon Osbourne and Louis Walsh will be back for the second series, after their constant feuds with fellow judge Simon Cowell.
