The 31-year-old singer, who first found fame on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, is believed to have wowed the panel during the audition rounds two months ago.
According to the Daily Mail, Pearce has since secured a place in the judges' homes stage of the contest and looks likely to be part of the final 12 this year.
A source said: "Daniel is a really strong contender to win... He has a great voice and he looks good. He is so experienced I am surprised that he has been allowed through, but the truth is he is not breaking any of the show rules."
An X Factor spokesman confirmed that contestants who have had previous recording deals are free to enter the competition as long as they are not currently under contract.
Pearce has reportedly worked as a backing singer and songwriter since One True Voice split in 2003.
