The judge told The Sun that she had felt excluded by the other panel members in 2008 before she broke down in tears after an argument with Louis Walsh.
Minogue said: "There was a room where we were all meant to meet before we went to the studio. There was a huge 'Keep Out' sign on that door, so I did. I was being respectful!
"It was only later in the series they said to me, 'Oh that wasn't meant for you', and I could have gone in. But nobody came and got me and said, 'Come and join in'."
She added: "I don't like negative energy and if I feel it, I tend to keep to myself a little bit. And I think that did make me a bit misunderstood last year.
"I just didn't really enjoy myself much last year. Things were difficult between me and Louis, and it changed the whole vibe. They've all been telling me I'm different this year, but I'm like, 'What, and you guys are exactly the same?'"
Minogue said that she and Walsh had "reached an understanding" and that their relationship is now "good" after he apologised for letting his involvement with his acts affect their friendship.
