Cowell: 'Let's resolve scheduling clash'

Simon Cowell has admitted that he thinks it is "crazy" that reality TV programmes Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor overlap.

The BBC One dance show will be broadcast at 7.25pm this evening, while the singing contest airs on ITV1 at 8pm tonight.

According to The Sun, the X Factor judge has offered to chair a meeting with representatives from the BBC and ITV so that the two shows no longer clash.

He said: "As a producer, I have to protect our programme. But if you look at it sensibly, these are the two most popular programmes on TV at the moment. I'm happy to chair a meeting with someone from the BBC and someone from ITV and I genuinely think we could solve this within 20 minutes.

"I'll try to persuade ITV to move it back or forward, whatever they need to do. I don't care who goes first, by the way. I'm prepared to do everything to give the public what they want.

He added that he is a fan of both shows, and that he can't understand why the BBC want "a ratings battle" when it is funded by licence payers.
