Walsh, who mentors the twins on the show, explained that their performances cheer people up.
"I honestly think that they can win the competition and go on to become a very successful boyband," he told The People. "I don't care what the other judges think. The boys can sing and they are good performers.
"The point of music is to entertain and they do this very well. They have a huge amount of talent between them and people enjoy watching them, even though the other judges slate them.
"People need cheering up during these dark times and John and Edward do that. I can see them having a number one hit. I am determined to nurture their talent."
However, Walsh admitted that the negative press surrounding the twins has affected them.
He said: "The boys have found it difficult but they are trying to use it to make them stronger."
The X Factor results show is on ITV1 tonight at 8pm.
