The Girls Aloud star said that Cowell was often "annoying" and "rude" when he criticised her acts, adding that the atmosphere was usually "quite heated" between the judges.
"There is [tension] on the actual Saturday night, when he starts getting annoying and saying nasty things," she told the BBC. "It gets quite heated backstage, and quite competitive.
"I don't feel like I'm a competitive person. I feel like the best person should win The X Factor, whether they're in my category or not. But he's so competitive and so rude sometimes that I find myself getting caught up in it... Honestly, he's really annoying. Really annoying."
She also claimed that she had warned her contestants to not expect success, even if they win the ITV1 show.
"I've told them to expect that. If you go out soon, you could still have success and if you win you're not guaranteed success. Certainly not," she said.
Cole's debut solo album 3 Words was released on Monday.
