Cowell opted to let the previous public vote decide Adedeji's fate, despite admitting that her sing-off performance of 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' was better than Lloyd Daniels's sore throat-marred take on 'You Are So Beautiful'.
She told DS: "I think he was right to go to deadlock, because he could have just said me, but then we still wouldn't know why the public aren't really getting me.
"I think it was only fair. Lloyd gave great performances, I felt I'd done pretty well as well, so it was only fair to let the public decide."
Of the suggestion that Cowell took pity on her sickly competitor, she added: "I don't think so. Listen, Simon's a harsh man, we know this!
"Sore voice or not, I still think he would have taken it to deadlock. Everyone gave a great performance on Saturday night, it was just really hard to call."
