The X Factor duo explained that it is demoralising when they are criticised because they work so hard.
"It's hard when you stop singing and everyone's booing, I'm not going to lie," John told the Daily Mail. "Especially when we've been working so hard all week. But we keep ourselves in a bit of a bubble. It protects us, and we just get on with things."
He added that he tries not to listen to the comments about their performances, explaining: "Everyone's saying we're doing really well now and of course we want to stay on the show. But it's just like when people criticise us - you can't take everything too seriously."
The X Factor results show is on tomorrow at 8pm on ITV1.
