Opera singer Daniel Fox has returned for a second attempt at winning The X Factor at the Manchester auditions.

Fox, who reached the Judges' Houses stage of last year's competition, performed the Oasis track 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' for Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and guest judge Nicole Scherzinger.

He was sent through to Boot Camp by the judges, however, according to fans on the DS forums, Cowell criticised the singer for looking too desperate with his performance.

In last year's series, Cheryl Cole and Will Young opted to ditch Fox from the live shows, choosing Lloyd Daniels, Ricky Loney and eventual winner Joe McElderry instead.

His performances of 'Somewhere' at the 2009 auditions won praise from Cowell and Walsh, while Pop Idol winner Young described his rendition of 'I Can't Live' as "out and out moving".
