X Factor contestants through to the Boot Camp stage of the competition have had to impress the judges in a dance masterclass.

Show bosses called in creative director Brian Friedman to put the hopefuls through their paces, reports The Sun.

Writing on Twitter, Friedman said that he was impressed with the "incredible" standard.

"X Factor Boot Camp is almost done... I'm dying to see who goes through! (sic)" he wrote.

"I'm working with the contestants now and am blown away!"

The Boot Camp change comes as Simon Cowell reportedly hopes to make the live shows more exciting.

"X Factor has always been a singing show, but Simon really wants to find a multi-talented, rounded stage performer," a source told the paper.

"Some acts that got through last year, like Stacey Solomon and Jedward, would never have got to this stage. It's all about raising the standards."

With Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue both absent, Cowell and Louis Walsh have been joined by Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger.

The source added: "Simon knows a bit about dancing, but Louis isn't that clued up. Having Brian and Nicole there is certainly helping."

Due to Cole and Minogue's absence, bosses decided last week to scrap the Boot Camp live audience.
