Byrne, a 50-year-old Tesco checkout worker, had previously appeared on Nollaig No.1, an Irish TV singing competition in 2005, which she won.
On Saturday, the contestant wowed Simon Cowell, Katy Perry, Cheryl Cole and Louis Walsh with her rendition of 'I (Who Have Nothing)', and will next be seen in the Boot Camp stage of the show.
TG4 producer Tom Evans told The Mirror: "She was very nervous when she appeared on our show. She really lacked confidence in her ability.
"If nothing else, winning the contest gave her belief in herself. She's had a tough life and I hope she goes far. I think she will do really well if she goes to the live shows."
The X Factor continues next Saturday at 7.30pm on ITV1.
