Bookmakers have installed Mary Byrne as the new favourite to win this year's series of The X Factor.

The supermarket checkout worker astounded the judges on Saturday's auditions show with her rendition of 'I Who Have Nothing'. Paddy Power is currently tipping her for the title with odds of 6/1, ahead of week one singer Gamu Nhengu (8/1).

Punters can also bet on Byrne appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show (13/8), reaching number one in the US (8/1) and selling more copies of her album than Susan Boyle (10/1).

Other contestants from the second auditions show tipped for success include harmony group The Reason (12/1), girlband Husstle (25/1), painter and decorator Matt Cardle (12/1) and returning contestant Annastasia Baker (20/1).

The X Factor continues next Saturday at 7.30pm.
