The bands fail to generate enthusiasm for the judge, surprising him in the wrong way.
As Husstle prepare to face the music producer, they say: "It's nerve-wracking, you never know what Simon is going to say. [We] want him to see that we've improved at every step along the way."
Following their version of 'Tainted Love', Simon flatly says: "It's not a girl group, it's one girl and four back-up singers."
Simon's mood is not lifted when faced with The Reason and their performance of a Daniel Bedingfield track.
"I thought we were going to hear stronger voices than that," Simon comments. "I was disappointed with that."
In other Groups performances, Twem try to win Simon round by singing 'When Love Takes Over' by David Guetta and Kelly Rowland, and Belle Amie impress with their take on George Michael's 'Faith'.
The X Factor airs tonight at 7.05pm on ITV1.
