Katie Waissel 'has multiple personalities'

X Factor contestant Katie Waissel has "multiple personalities", according to the show's stylist Grace Woodward.

Speaking to Radio Times, Woodward defended her colleague's decision to dress Waissel in a helmet and pink trousers on the first live show.

Woodward said of the outfit: "Not my idea... that was the vision of creative director Brian Friedman.

"But maybe it worked to her advantage because when she appeared in a simple gown afterwards it was like a big reveal, showing her stripped bare and a beautiful... Katie has multiple personalities. One of them is to please. Then she'll say the opposite."

Of her job, Woodward added: "I was hired to help form the contestants. To get to the essence of who they were and help them express that and make them better. But I think I need a degree in psychology. There are tears, there are body issues."

The show's make-up artist Liz Martins said of the contestants: "The likes of Cher [Lloyd] and Katie already have definite looks and know what they want. It's up to us to build on that and help them to express themselves."
