According to The Sun, Simon Cowell has already called in producers and songwriters to begin working on material for them.
"It's a done deal," a source told the paper. "Writers and producers connected with his Syco label have already been asked to pitch tracks for the group."
The music mogul is also said to want the five boys to be edgier than they appear on the ITV show.
"Although they're young he doesn't want them to be squeaky clean," the insider said. "He knows they will connect better by being edgy, like JLS or even East 17."
One Direction will compete in The X Factor semi-final this weekend.
