Speaking to Konnie Huq on The Xtra Factor, Cowell explained that he felt that they had potential from the very beginning.
He said: "I remember doing the home visit with Sinitta and when these boys came out and they sang 'Torn', I turned round to her and I said, 'These boys could win the show, they're that good!'
"From the first live show, it was partly the way that they worked with us. They have been an absolute joy from start to finish, I might adopt them all."
Cowell also praised the group's duet singer Robbie Williams for the time he spent with them, adding: "Robbie is such a genius guy, he really is, because he doesn't just stand there and sing. He's with them beforehand, he's with them afterwards, he's encouraging them and he made a huge difference tonight. Robbie's a real star."
The X Factor will crown its winner in tomorrow night's live final at 7.30pm on ITV1.
