Last week the tabloid press speculated that the SyCo boss could snap up Matt Cardle, Rebecca Ferguson, Cher Lloyd and One Direction after the series ended.
However, on last night's show Cowell was coy about the rumours that the winner, Cardle, wouldn't be the only act to get his label's backing.
When quizzed directly about One Direction's future by Konnie Huq on The Xtra Factor, he said: "What do you think? We may have a point to prove, so we'll see what happens."
Later, when pressed further on the finalists' futures, he added: "We'll have to wait and see."
