The media regulator has now received 2,750 complaints about performances by Rihanna and Christina Aguilera on the Saturday night show. The Guardian reports that a further 1,500 have contacted ITV directly.
The paper claims that the number of complaints has doubled since the Daily Mail ran a double-page spread featuring stills from the two singers' performances. The images were published alongside a headline reading: "We apologise to readers but you have to see these pictures to understand the fury they've stirred."
It further reported that Ofcom was "dragging its feet" over launching an official investigation into the ITV show, which was watched by more than 14 million people.
