ITV bosses and the show's production company Talkback Thames are allegedly hoping to introduce the supermodel - as well as a male celebrity of similar stature - to the panel in the event that current judges Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell take leave for the US version.
The Mail On Sunday claims that Campbell, whose first and only album Baby Woman peaked at number 75 in 1994, has been identified as a credible judge because of her insight into the world of celebrity rather than her musical credentials.
Campbell will presumably receive backing from X Factor creator and close friend Cowell, who awarded her with a backstage pass to one of the competition's live shows last year.
She said at the time: "Simon is an institution. I love him. I watch The X Factor every week and it drives my boyfriend insane."
When asked about the reports, an X Factor spokesperson stated: "No decisions have been made at this stage."
It was claimed today that Cole will not help judge the forthcoming US version of The X Factor.
