Arriving at the first auditions in Birmingham for the next series of the show, Take That star Barlow said that he is looking forward to working with the other new faces on the show, N-Dubz star Tulisa Contostavlos and former Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland.
Barlow told The Mirror: "I sent Cheryl some texts just saying, 'Sending support'. She's a good friend of mine. I'm disappointed she's gone."
However, he added: "The other two girls are going to be great. I love Tulisa - I've worked with N-Dubz before and I love working with them. She's great and is going to bring a whole new dimension to the show."
The Take That singer, who replaces Simon Cowell as lead judge and mentor on the show, also joked that it was time for the music impresario to move on, as "he's been on it too much".
Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Cole would not return to the UK version of the talent show, after reportedly being replaced on The X Factor USA by Nicole Scherzinger.
