Hotly-tipped X Factor contestant Carolynne Poole appeared on BBC One's Fame Academy in 2003, it has been revealed.

Poole reached the final of the BBC talent show under her maiden name Carolynne Good, losing out to eventual winner Alex Parks and runner-up Alistair Griffin.

The singer, who is married to Stockport County player David Poole, was hailed as a potential X Factor finalist by judge Tulisa Contostavlos after auditioning in Manchester at the weekend.

She performed Miley Cyrus's 'The Climb' and was described as "spectacular" by Gary Barlow.

Before Fame Academy, Poole reached the final 15 in auditions for pop group S Club 7 and signed a deal with BMG Publishing in 2001. She also helped co-write one of the tracks on Parks's Fame Academy winners' album.

X Factor auditions continue in Cardiff, Liverpool and London next month.
