Sami Brookes has claimed that the X Factor bust-ups have been caused by "monthly symptoms" shared by the female contestants.

It was revealed over the weekend that Brookes, Misha Bryan and girl group Rhythmix had fallen out behind the scenes and there were accusations in the tabloids that Bryan had been "bullying" the other acts.

However, 31-year-old Brookes downplayed the disputes, explaining to Digital Spy that their rows had stemmed from more innocent problems.

"All girls have disagreements, all the time. Misha was a close friend in the house," she said.

"But we've all been under pressure. We're all tired, we all get monthly symptoms at the same time. We're all in sync with each other! "

Brookes added: "There are going to be disagreements from time to time, but the bullying thing is a bit silly. Me and Misha, as if someone that small would bully me! I'm a big bear compared to that little thing."

Brookes was eliminated from The X Factor last night after she found herself in the bottom two with fellow Overs act Kitty Brucknell.
