Speaking at his Children in Need Rocks concert in Manchester last night (November 17), the Take That star revealed that he was looking to reduce his workload next year to spend quality time with his family.
"I'm taking some time off next year to remind myself who my children are and what their names are," he told The Mirror. "Next year doesn't even feel like it's approaching."
On planning the charity gig, he added: "It's been nice to concentrate on something other than X Factor. We're in a bubble down there. It's been good to leave London. We get tied up with our own importance."
Barlow added that he was disappointed his X Factor predecessor Cheryl Cole had to pull out of their duet after being diagnosed with pharyngitis.
"I didn't want to replace her because it was going to be such a nice moment for her tonight," he said. "She's gutted. Who knows, we might be able to do a duet another time."
Barlow's fellow judge Louis Walsh has also admitted that he may not return for next year's X Factor, telling former panellist Dannii Minogue: "I want my life back. I don't want to be dealing with all these crazy people."
The X Factor continues tomorrow (November 19) at 8.15pm on ITV1.
