'X Factor' boyband cause more controversy

By
A member of controversial X Factor group Avenue once had a contract with Simon Cowell's recording firm.

Yesterday's tabloids claimed that the boyband tricked show producers by not declaring a management deal with pop mogul Ashley Tabor. Now it has emerged that 25-year-old Jamie Tinker was signed last year by SonyBMG.

"The fact that Jamie had a record deal before X Factor has thrown the whole show into chaos. He didn't make it and was dropped earlier this year," a source told The People.

"But anyone competing in X Factor is not meant to have a manager - let alone a record deal. How Simon didn't know about this is incredible. It makes the whole show a sham."

A spokesman insisted: "As long as an artist doesn't have a current recording contract, no rules have been broken. If they have had a deal in the past and it's expired, that is within the X Factor rules. What must be declared is any ongoing management contract."
