The X Factor's Lucy Spraggan has said that she hopes success on the ITV talent show manages to help her get a girlfriend.

The Sheffield singer, whose self-penned song 'Last Night' made the top five of the iTunes charts after Saturday's audition, came out as gay when she was 14 years old.

Now 20, Spraggan told Metro: "X Factor must do wonders for your love life. Girls do love girls with guitars."

She added of her family's support of her: "My mum loves gay people, she thinks she's part of the cool club now. But grandad only found out I was gay on Google."

Spraggan self-released 'Last Night' on her album Top Room at the Zoo last year.

The contestant made it through to Boot Camp after impressing a "sold" Tulisa Contostavlos as well as Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh and guest judge Mel B.
