'X Factor' top 4: What the judges said
Published Saturday, Dec 2 2006, 20:04 GMT | By Neil Wilkes
The X Factor top four took to the stage again tonight to compete for a place in next week's semi-final.
Here's what the judges had to say about their performances - one from the back catalogue of special guest Barry Manilow and one of their own choice:
The MacDonald Brothers - 'Can't Smile Without You'
Sharon: "They just love you more and more, don't they? A real feel-good song to open with. You sang it very nicely... but the note at the end, you were a bit off."
Simon: "A bit?! I thought it was your weakest performance probably so far. I thought it was actually - I liked you last week - but that was painful. There was a complete and utter lack of personality."
Louis: "I want you to make it to the final three, I want everyone to vote for you. That was a good performance."
Ray - 'Mandy'
Louis: "No dancing tonight. You came out tonight and you sang the song. That was a very, very convincing performance."
Sharon: "I have to agree with Louis. You've stopped being the song-and-dance man, you're the singer. It really shows - very elegant performance, really well done."
Simon: "We had to change the arrangement last night. It's not the best I've heard you sing yet, I think you've got another big big song coming up and you need to work harder."
Ben - 'I Made It Through The Rain'
Simon: "This is what I like you doing best - no gimmicks, you pick the right song and sing it well. I thought that was very, very good."
Louis: "I thought it was a very believable song. You didn't pick a typical Barry Manilow song, you picked an onbscure one. You put your heart and soul into it."
Sharon: "I can't add anything after your performance. It spoke for itself."
Leona - 'Could It Be Magic'
Louis: "Great song. I'm trying to find something negative to say about you. I cannot find anything negative! It was a great performance. You can do no wrong, girl."
Sharon: "Fun, just fun, to see you dancing with the girls. You looked so cute tonight as well. You always sing superbly."
Simon: "That was simply sensational. Loved it."
The MacDonald Brothers - 'Shang-A-Lang' (Bay City Rollers)
Simon: "You know what, I surrender. I don't think this has got anything to do with singing any more. I'm going to make a prediction: I think this is your final week."
Sharon: "Listen, I'm not going to predict anything. I'm not Mystic Meg, I'm Mrs. O. You made everybody here very happy."
Louis: "You were great, great fun. People like you guys, I hope they vote."
Ray - 'My Way' (Frank Sinatra)
Sharon: "You sang with such great emotion there, You gave it 200 million percent of your soul. You know what, I have to say, you're a funny little thing. You're like a little Jack Russell, you won't go away. You're very talented. A very brave performance."
Louis: "I agree with Sharon. Every week you come out, you give 100%. It was a really big song for a small guy but well done."
Simon: "After that performance, you now deserve a place in the semi-final. I took a chance with you and you said to me, 'one day I hope you'll be proud of me'. Raymond, after that performance, I'm proud of you."
Ben - 'Somebody To Love' (Queen)
Simon: "Full marks for bravery on that one, young man. That was very good, very very good."
Louis: "I think it was a very brave thing to do. You are a brave, brave man and you deserve votes."
Sharon: "You've had your good nights, your great nights and bad nights. Every step along the way you've grown and you've tried to take it to a different level. I've got to take my hat off to you, you've definitely succeeded."
Leona - 'I Can't Live' (Mariah Carey)
Sharon: "Just so beautifully sung, with great emotion. You sang from your soul, Leona."
Louis: "After that performance I think the UK has found itself the new Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, something we haven't seen for a long time. You're going to be a big star."
Simon: "It's very easy to assume, especially after that performance, that you're going to get a load of votes. Please pick up the phone and vote. It is astonishing that you still don't know how good you are. That was just an incredible performance, Leona."
