'X Factor' UK given 'makeover' by Simon Cowell

By
Simon Cowell is reportedly taking a "hands-on" approach to The X Factor UK for the first time this series and flew back to the country especially to work on the audition show edits.

Ratings for the talent show's ninth series have been considerably lower than last year's run, only logging between 8-9 million, compared to 10 million plus in 2011.

Cowell is apparently determined to turn around the slump in viewers and has been involved in tweaking this weekend's double bill of shows.

"He is sitting through the rough edits and changing bits and pieces where he feels they need it," a source told The Mirror.

"It's the first time this year he will be really hands-on in the UK."

Syco's Head of TV Siobhan Greene revealed at the Edinburgh TV Festival that when Britain's Got Talent was beaten by The Voice in the ratings earlier this year, she had to go around to Cowell's house three days a week for chicken pie and to re-edit the shows.

The X Factor auditions continue this weekend with shows on Saturday and Sunday.
