'X Factor' Tammy confirms exit: I'm the only one to control my brother

X Factor star Tammy Cartwright has confirmed reports that she chose to quit the show over her brother's drug problem, saying that she feels she is "the only person who can control him".

The support worker was seen wowing judges on Saturday's (September 15) episode with her rendition of Jennifer Hudson's 'One Night Only', but chose to leave Boot Camp after "panicking" about having "no control" over various aspects of her life, including the wellbeing of her sibling Gareth.

Speaking to Digital Spy about her brother, Cartwright said: "He takes up a lot of my time, mentally. I'm just constantly worried about him... [at Boot Camp] he had a lapse and I just started panicking.

"For me to continue and be happy enough to continue, he would have to have been clean. [My brother is] like my child... I'm the only person that can control him and I'm the only person who can get through to him.

"And in a way me walking off that show wasn't just because my brother's on drugs, it wasn't about that. It was me panicking about everything, [like] not being in control of the competition... which made it really difficult for me to focus."

Cartwright also revealed that "everything's really settled" now her brother's living with her, and said she would like to return to The X Factor next year, if only to put "a bit more effort" into her audition.

Cartwright went on to apologise for her grandmother's antics on the show, which included swearing at Mel B from backstage, but hinted that the pensioner may be up for appearing on The X Factor again.

"You might get her to audition," she jested. "If Dermot [O'Leary] rung her up I think she'd definitely do it. She fell in love with him".
