X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger has defended the progression of Rylan Clark to Judges' Houses on the ITV1 talent show.

Scherzinger's Boys category includes Essex reality TV star Rylan and some viewers have criticised his success at the expense of other singers such as Joseph Whelan and Joe Cox.

However, the Pussycat Doll star insisted that the performer warranted a spot in the competition.

"Rylan my love! I like Rylan. To me is he is all spice and sparkles," she told Xtra Factor.

"We need to find some diva empowering anthems for him.

"He would definitely have his own audience."

The other boys hoping to make the Live Shows include James Arthur, Jahmene Douglas, Nathan Fagan-Gayle, Adam Burridge and Jake Quickenden.

X Factor Judges' Houses will air this weekend on ITV1.
