'X Factor': Kye Sones has 'classic British voice', says Gary Barlow

Gary Barlow has revealed why he picked Kye Somes, Carolynne Poole and Melanie Masson for this Top 3 Overs acts on this year's X Factor.

The Take That star described chimney sweep Somes as a "classic" singer and backed him to "thrive" on the Live Shows.

"I'm so excited about Kye," Barlow told The Xtra Factor. "The things you could do with that voice. It's a classic great British voice.

"He will thrive every week on there being a big shift in the music. I'm looking forward to it."

Speaking about Carolynne, Barlow said that the ex-WAG was the "country music star" that the show had needed for years.

"There is no-one else like her in the competition, which must be a massive plus," he said.

Meanwhile, the judge explained why he selected "experienced" Melanie over Liverpudlian Christopher Maloney.

"Christopher's nerves terrify me," he said. "We've had pressure, but in the live studio millions are watching."

The X Factor Live Shows start this weekend on ITV1.
