'X Factor' Gary Barlow: 'Last year's contestants weren't good enough'

By
X Factor judge Gary Barlow has declared that the contestants on last year's series "weren't good enough".

The Take That star, who mentored Frankie Cocozza and eventual runner-up Marcus Collins in the 2011 edition won by Little Mix, expressed confidence that his Overs category and the rest of the current contestants would impress.

"My complaint at the end of last year is I thought the contestants weren't good enough," Metro quotes him as saying.

"I think we had a pretty average year last year and this year coming back I am really stoked."

Barlow also dismissed suggestions that the X Factor judging panel are responsible for the drop in ratings this series.

"They are not going to get more audience figures because my critique is better," he argued. "They are not tuning in to see me...they are tuning in to see people become stars."

Barlow has today (October 2) hit back at rumours of X Factor boss Simon Cowell's apparent dislike of him, saying that he has "no time" for "gossip and tittle tattle".
