An analysis of Saturday's (October 27) Halloween special live show has reportedly shown that Maloney made the most amount of flat notes during his performance of '(I Just) Died in Your Arms'.
Maloney is said to have made 10 'bum notes' during his performance, while Rylan Clark, Kye Sones and Jahmene Douglas tied with eight 'bum notes' each.
The study was commissioned by text answer service 63336, who used musicians with perfect pitch - the ability to identify a musical note without an external reference such as another voice or instrument.
Helen Wright from the company said: "63336 used dedicated researchers to analyse each act, and found that Christopher Maloney really struggled the most this week.
"He was surprisingly even more out of tune than Rylan, who many people discount as the show's weakest singer."
Ella Henderson was named this week's top performer, with only two flat notes during her performance of 'Bring Me to Life'.
Wright added: "We carried out this research to answer [the query] 'Who should get the boot tomorrow?' - a question we received on Saturday night... Based on this analysis at this stage, we think Ella is clearly on course to win the competition."
James Arthur came out on top in this week's 'best singer' poll from Digital Spy readers for his take on 'Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)'.
The X Factor continues with a number ones-themed show on Saturday at 8.20pm on ITV1.
