'X Factor' Week Five Results Show - live blog

The X Factor 2012: Gary Barlow, Nicole Scherzinger, Tulisa and Louis Walsh

After a night of cheese, a Madonna/ABBA mash-up and a distinct lack of number ones in a 'number one'-themed week, it's time for another evening of controversy and bad decision-making.

Jahmene Douglas has topped Digital Spy's weekly 'best singer' poll for the first time this week. Will he also sail through to round six?

The growing cult icon that is Christopher Maloney finished at the bottom of our poll, but could he escape the bottom two once again?

After last week's general outcry of everyone in the UK disagreeing with the final decision to send home Jade Ellis, could we have a shock-free week for once?

Join Digital Spy's live blog from 8pm when The X Factor results show airs on ITV1.

20:58What were your thoughts on the result? Let us know in the comments below. See you next time.

20:57So that's it! Not any controversy this week, which is a bit of an anti-climax in a way! One Direction, Ed Sheeran and Little Mix next week.

20:56So, Gary's hopes fall to Maloney. Wow.

20:55Rylan is through yet again. Kye's out. Gary didn't burst out the studio though, so that's a start.

20:54Gary clearly didn't threaten Tulisa. She sends home Kye, down to deadlock yet again.

20:53The enigma that is Louis Walsh. Unpredictable, but this time he does the "right thing" by sending home Rylan. Did Gary threaten him during the ad break??

20:52Was Simon Cowell the only person ever to vote against his own act?

20:50A relatively tough one. I think Kye is by far the better singer and made more of an effort to be saved. However, Rylan pulled it out, as it were.

20:49Kye's doing Jason Mraz. Expect this to re-enter the iTunes Top 40 chart tonight.

20:47Wow, is it just me or does Rylan sound pretty good? And a Des'ree cover no less.

20:46Nicole does a weird scream/prayer as her introduction to Rylan. Sums it up really.

20:45So - Rylan vs Kye. I'm predicting three votes to one in favour of Rylan. What do you think?

20:43In fact, I think Barlow's beard is staying until Rylan is out. Sort of like how Goran Ivanisevic wouldn't shave until the end of Wimbledon.

20:43Though if Gary Barlow's nemesis knocks another one of his acts out, I think he might just punch Louis and kick a pensioner on his way out of the studio.

20:41Is Rylan's time finally up? I don't think so. I think most of the judges prefer him to Kye.

20:41Really?? District3? Louis is a smug goit for another week.

20:40Ella makes it through. Could my prediction be right?

20:39James Arthur also makes it through to round six. See, get rid of those glasses forever, mate.

20:39I apologise for saying obvs by the way. Maloney's through!!! Boos!

20:39Jahmene's through. Obvs.

20:38Union J through. One Direction are that little bit more nervous. Well, probably not.

20:35Results up next. Predictions? I'm going for District3 and Kye in the bottom two. Which means that it will probably be Maloney and Rylan.

20:32Gwen has NO IDEA about any of the singers, clearly. Good save Tony Kanal!

20:31Dermot sounding truly excited meeting these guys.

20:29Glad No Doubt still have the ska/reggae tinge in their music.

20:29Keith Gregg, you are indeed right. Was far too excited about the prospect of No Doubt songs, clearly. I meant 'Hey Baby'.

20:28I think this song is what one calls a 'grower'.

20:27Bloody hell, Gwen Stefani looks amazing. She's 43. 43!!

20:26Right, it's not 1997. Or even 2001. But it is No Doubt! Didn't think we'd ever be watching them on this show, glad to see it.

20:26Gary says Rylan "made an effort". Wow, give him the trophy then.

20:22I'm guessing I'm silly in hoping that No Doubt do a 'best-of' medley featuring 'Don't Speak', 'Hey Girl' and 'Underneath It All'?

20:19For those who wanted to know who 'found' Rylan? There is your answer. No Doubt up next after a shouty competition trail.

20:17A generally decent performance from Miss Ora, a future X Factor judge, perhaps?

20:15Louis Walsh seems disappointed he hasn't had a lapdance like he did last week from Robbie.

20:13Here comes 2012's Jessie J, it's Rita Ora!

20:13I love how Louis mocks Maloney, yet has managed far, far worse.

20:12Well, I personally thought he sounded flat in that clip, but what do I know? District3 look like bad three Niall Horan tribute acts.

20:10Jahmene was voted the best by most DS readers, do you agree?

20:09Why didn't they just call it 'songs we like' week instead of 'number ones which weren't actually number one, well, maybe in Switzerland once' week?

20:08I've only just realised that Ella is the last remaining girl. I think it's time we lost a boyband (or two).

20:06For most of them the song seems far too low for them. As Matt Lucas as Shirley Bassey would say, "they don't have the range, darling".

20:06It's good to see they sing these group songs live now, but ...

20:05Rylan donning his best Beatles/Coldplay tribute outfit as the finalists sing along to Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen.

20:03Gary Barlow's angry beard getting bigger and angrier by the day.

20:03Rita Ora and No Doubt up later. Minus 'controversial' Native American outfits this time, I'm guessing.

20:01I know that I'm getting old when I just want everyone to calm down with all of Peter Dickson's shouting and the overuse of Carl Orff.

20:00A recap of last night's 'number ones' first of all. I'll say it again, HARDLY ANY NUMBER ONES.

19:58Right, tea (or other beverage of choice) at the ready? Let's get on with it, then. Cue controversy!
