The 34-year-old Liverpudlian singer made the comments on tonight's episode of the singing competition (November 10).
Responding to reports that he has spent thousands of pounds voting for himself, Maloney said: "I mean," before pausing and seeming lost for words. He quickly added: "I just don't know where they've got that from."
Maloney, who performed Elton John's 'I'm Still Standing' on tonight's 'Best of British'-themed episode of the show, added that he was doing his best in the competition.
Following his rendition of John's hit, judge Nicole Scherzinger told him not to confuse confidence with "cockiness", adding: "To me you're like a karaoke king, and for this competition I'm looking for an artist that is going to break boundaries with music. I don't know if it's you."
Louis Walsh agreed with Scherzinger, saying that he "is not what The X Factor is about", and that his performances were like "listening to Heart Radio day after day after day".
Maloney is also reportedly receiving double the amount of votes to the other contestants.
The X Factor continues on ITV1.
