The X Factor singer has received threatening messages on the micro-blogging site from angry viewers after he was put through to the next round at the expense of former bookmakers' favourite Ella Henderson.
Maloney tweeted: "Ello guys, taking a break from twitter for a bit, need to concentrate on my songs for this week. Ope u understand, thanks 4 ur support. xx (sic)."
He had earlier revealed that he was receiving threatening tweets, including some from people suggesting he should kill himself.
"It's a singing comp, now getting death threats. What's the world coming to?" he wrote.
Producers have reportedly discussed the messages with Maloney and will soon decide whether or not to take further action with police.
A TV spokesperson said: "The welfare of our contestants is always our key priority and we work with them to provide what support is needed."
Christopher Maloney recently said that he was shocked by claims that he is a diva behind the scenes.
The singer has seen his odds of winning slashed following Henderson's exit, and having yet to fall into the bottom two.
