'X Factor' Chris Maloney: 'My winner's single will surprise' - video

By
X Factor finalist Christopher Maloney has dismissed suggestions that he is not a relevant performer, claiming that his potential winner's single will "surprise" critics.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other journalists alongside mentor Gary Barlow, the Liverpudlian singer claimed that he has plenty of original material in his repertoire, as well as retro covers.

"I've got a few songs that I've written myself of experiences through life and stuff," Maloney said.

"If I get through and I'm lucky enough to win, I can't tell you too much about the winner's single, but it's a surprise."

Barlow added that the pair were convinced they'd been "right all along" with their song choices, but admitted that the viewer backlash to the cruise ship singer had affected him behind the scenes.

"On the front of it Chris has dealt with it really well, but behind the scenes he's a person and it hurts, some of the things [that have been said]," he revealed.

"But he's hidden it well and he's kept going and he's fought through every week and here he is in the final."

The X Factor final airs tomorrow (December 8) at 8pm on ITV1.
