Cole is apparently being sought as part of a 'back-to-basics' reboot for The X Factor, dreamt up after its ninth series - won by James Arthur last night (December 9) - concluded with the lowest ratings for a final since 2007.
However, a representative for Cole has said of the rumours: "Cheryl left the UK X Factor two years ago and has no plans to return."
A spokesperson added to the Daily Mail: "No decisions will be made on next year's series until further down the line."
Simon Cowell and Sharon Osbourne have also been linked to a return for the 'back-to-basics' version of The X Factor, which could reportedly drop the arena auditions and be geared more towards younger viewers.
Cole, meanwhile, has sued the producers of The X Factor USA for $2.3 million (£1.4m) she claims she is owed after being axed a few weeks into its debut season.
