Ben Shephard has confirmed that he decided to leave ITV2's The Xtra Factor after losing out on the chance to take over from Kate Thornton.
The 32-year-old admitted that he wanted to replace Thornton as the main X Factor host after she was axed - but the job eventually went to Big Brother's Little Brother presenter Dermot O'Leary.
"I was considered when Kate left the ITV1 show," Ben told The Sun. "But they took Dermot instead so I decided it was time."
Although Ben has not spoken to Simon Cowell since, he said: "I'd work with him again. You can't really say no, can you?"
Shephard has signed up to host new BBC One reality show DanceX.
