Friedman was appointed by Cowell to replace Louis Walsh as one of the judges on X Factor in June.
However, only a couple of weeks later the dance choreography was dumped from the panel, making way for a returning Walsh
Talking about the decision, Cowell told the Radio Times: "We brought in this new guy, we did the first two days filming, which was all fine.
"After that it turned from fish and chips to fish and mushroom risotto - both very nice, but I'm not sure they go well together.
"I think Sharon and me were the fish, and Brian was the risotto."
On the subject of reappointing Louis Walsh, he commented: "Anyway, I missed the fun relationship that Louis and I have."
